Germany enters Euro 2008 final

Despite having to prepare for my upcoming end of sem exam, the thought of viewing the Euro08 semifinal btw Germany vs Turkey with more than ten thousand ppl is enuf to make me shut my books close. Went to Stuttgart with my german housemate n my frens.

Superman!! haha! i wore a german flag! oops.. beta hope that no JPA officers will view my blog =)

Football is a big thing here in Germany. Fans, guys n gals alike, will do all sorts of stuffs to show their support to their respective teams. Many ppl wore flags, painted their faces, coloured their hairs in the team’s colour etc. While we were on our way to the public viewing centre, huge waves of people could be seen waving flags and singing their songs. The atmosphere is totally amazing. The way the germans support their national team is absolutely different with the Malaysian way. I hv heard from my senior that many germans broke down to tears when Germany lost to Italy in the semifinals during the last world cup. For us Malaysians: “ Malaysia kalah? Biasalah…”

Doggie oso loves football!

Even their statues support their national team as well...

Despite being in Stuttgart an hour b4 the start of the game, the place for public viewing was closed due to overwhelming crowd. We could only view the big screen from far.

Scenes b4 the kick-off:

There are many supporters from Turkey as well. Many Turks have immigrated to Germany after WW2. Analogy: Turks – German = Indonesians/Bangladeshi – Malaysians. (get it?) When the germans shout “ Deutschland! Deutschland!” the Turks will shout „ Turkiye! Turkiye!”

Guess wat we Malaysians shout? BOTH! When Turkey took the lead, groans could be heard everywhere. The Turks then celebrated as if they have won the match. “ Turkiye! Turkiye!” echoed throughout the whole place. Wat shud we do then? Shout along lo!

Shortly after Turkey has scored, Germany equalised. The crowd erupted! Wat we Malaysians do then? “Deutschland! Deutschland!” of cos…

The most amazing part has to be the last few minutes of the match. The score was still tied at 2-2 when Philip Lahm scored in the last minute to hand Germany the ticket to the final. The scene when Germany scored was totally unforgettable. Everyone cheered at the top of their lungs. Couples hugged each other. Ppl of diff nationalities (me included) jumped and cheered “ Finale! Oooo! Finale! Oooo!”

The video is a live scene after Germany have scored the 3rd goal. At 2:00 is the time when the referee blow the final whistle.

Despite the fact that the next day is a normal working day, many germans could not be bothered about it and celebrated their team’s victory till late at night. They dance and drink and drink and drink…

Germans mah... they wont be called germans if they don't drink. =)

Die Mannschaft!!!! ^_^

But hey you gotta admit, it was a lacklustre display and Lehmann was crap. Hope they will be able to reproduce their awesome form in which they defeated Portugal in the final against Spain!

frankly, i wouldn't mind if spain win it. Cos they deserved it for the football they played so far. Their style is similar to Arsenal's. Attack n attack. They play the beautiful game whereas Germany n Italy play more long balls n depend much on set-pieces. It shud be fair if they r awarded with the grand prize.

Having said that, i do think Germany shud have their game plan to counter the spanish attack. It will be an interesting final though...

Lol, hey if Germany lose won't you be disappointed? When France lost in the last World Cup final, i was hyper disappointed, and i'm anti-Italy until now, lol...

eh Italy do not play negative football every time leh! Look at WC2006, we attack like mad ok! 11 goals scored by 10 different players, attacking football at its finest! We only played the defensive 4-5-1 in the final because the French copied our style also. Besides in the quarter final's second half and ET Spain also play negative football wat!
